Supplements I took while on chemotherapy

NOTE:  I am not a doctor but just providing information that I found helpful during my journey.  Before starting or stopping any medicines, changing your diet, etc. CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR.  They will provide you with the best treatment for you and your personal situation.  Also, I am not paid by any of the companies below for sharing their product.  This is strictly informational on what I used and what has worked for me.  Xo, Tracy

  • Nature’s Lining by Lane Innovative – This supplement helped me so much and is my first recommendation to anyone going through chemotherapy.  This supplement helps to rebuild your stomach and mucus linings (mouth, etc.) – it’s a must have you can buy it here.
    • Melatonin – I take 20 mg a night, 20 min before bedtime.  Dr. Luepnitz recommends that everyone should be taking Melatonin.  I recommend taking this forever. There are a lot of articles showing the efficacy of Melatonin and the benefits for cancer patients.  Any brand is fine.
    • L-Glutamine – Take this if you are taking TAXOL for chemotherapy.  This should not be taken when doing AC chemotherapy.  This helps to prevent Neuropathy.  I purchase this brand found here.  I take 1 tablet AM and 1 tablet PM.  Side note – I experienced no neuropathy during my Taxol chemotherapy regime.
    • Turmeric – I take this brand link here.  I take 2 tabs AM and 2 tabs PM.  There are a lot of studies out there showing how Turmeric fights all kinds of cancer. I will take this forever.
    • Quercetin (and vitamin C) for COVID prevention – Link found here.  I take 1 tab at night. If you get COVID increase to 3x day with meals.
    • Vitamin D3 with K2 – 5000iu/daily – link found here – if you have TNBC your Vitamin D needs to be at 60.  There is a link between low vitamin D and TNBC.
    • Ask to get your Vitamin D tested.
    • Stop taking the supplement 3 days before testing, this way you get an accurate view of what is in your blood and not the supplement you are taking.
    • Methyl B-12 & Methyl Folate and P5P – If your 23 and me shows that you have a defective MTHFR gene – you will need to take Methyl B-12 & Methyl Folate and P5P every day in and out of chemo (forever).  Link found here.
    • Probiotic & Prebiotic – Saccharomyces Boulardii plus MOS – link here.  I found this highly recommended from another cancer patient who has lung cancer and has stopped her tumor progression and beat death many times now.  Probiotics can’t hurt. I take one tablet a day. 😊
    • Claritin or any generic version – This is a must if you are taking Neulasta to build your white blood cells between chemotherapy treatments.  This greatly helps with the bone pain you will get if you must do a Neulasta shot to get your White Blood Cells (WBC) building.  I took this through all my chemotherapy treatments.  The generic version is found under the name Loratadine.
    • Prilosec or any generic version – Chemotherapy drugs are harsh on your stomach, make sure you are doing something to protect it.  Any generic brand will do.
    • Stool softener – Chemotherapy drugs are notorious for causing constipation.  If you feel like you are becoming constipated, you will need to take a stool softener every night.  I took one through my entire chemotherapy treatments and never experienced any horrible constipation issues.  Any generic version is fine.
    • Diarrhea – If you have diarrhea, speak to your doctor, there are recommended medications for that also.
    • Lidocaine cream – before you start chemotherapy ask your oncologist to prescribe lidocaine to apply for your port site.  You apply it 45 minute or so prior to getting your port accessed for chemotherapy.  It helps so much and you will thank me for this recommendation.
    • How to apply.  Get yourself some Glad Press and Seal and cut a 3×3 square, squeeze the lidocaine onto the middle of that (about a nickel size) and then lay that on your port site and press the edges to your skin.  It keeps it in place until you get to the infusion room and the nurses know how to remove and clean off before accessing.  A wonderful nurse shared this little secret with me.  LIFE CHANGING.
