Post surgery update on Tracy from Mano

April 6, 2022

Mano here… update on Tracy’s surgery today.

Last night she got a quick shower.  I had my Sharpie ready to go over any of the marker lines the surgeon had so meticulous drawn on her breasts just in case any of them were washed away. Unfortunately, the lines looked great and I didn’t get to draw on her. Darn….

Our day started at 7am today with a mammogram-guided placement of a guide wire to mark the location of the titanium marker marking the location of the former tumor.

After that, she was wheeled over to a different building for pre-op. Here we waited until noon.

At noon she was taken back to OR #2 for surgery.

Surgery began shortly afterward and my waiting began.

A little after 2pm her surgeon came out and said the tumor area and clip had been removed. Clear margins around the clip. 3 sentinel nodes were also removed. 2 were frozen tested and the results were negative. 1 was too small to freeze test so all will be tested again to confirm the initial findings. She didn’t expect different results.

The plastic surgeon then took over. I got an update from a nurse after the plastics surgeon hit her 2-hour mark. One breast was done and the other was being worked on.

Around 5:30 pm the plastic surgeon was done.  She came out and report everything was completed and Tracy looked great!!

I was not able to see her until almost 8 pm. What a day!!!

We are back in our room at the Rotary, which is connected to MD Anderson, and Tracy is trying to rest.

Praises to all the incredible staff of doctors and nurses at MD Anderson who were involved in Tracy’s care!!!

Thank you, thank you!!!!
