Life in the Fast Line

October 13, 2021

It’s been a crazy couple of days for those who have not been tuned in, let me get you up to speed.  Over the weekend both Mano and I started coming down with a “cold”.   We’ve suspected that it’s the same cold that Christian had a week or 10 days ago – and we are right.

Monday I was not feeling fabulous at all, so I called the oncologist to let them know that I had a cold and asked if this would affect my surgery on Tuesday to get my port placed – well, in the day and age of COVID, of course, this matters.  To make a LONG story short – I ended up having to:

Go to CVS to get a PCR COVID test – because they are more accurate than the rapid results
Go to my primary care doctor to get seen and to get a flu test – which was negative for Flu A and Flu B
Then wait…. and wait… and wait…

So we rescheduled the port placement to Friday 10/15 but I kept the CT and Bone scan appointments for today.  The oncologist’s office informed me at 4:30 pm yesterday if I didn’t get my negative COVID results back before the appointment this morning to just “skip” the appointment and they would reschedule.

So I went to bed… planning on skipping the appointment, HOWEVER, in the middle of the night, I needed to use the restroom and decided to check my phone, and guess what – MY NEGATIVE COVID test was back.

Praise be to GOD – so this morning.. I was able to keep all my scheduled appointments.

Continued prayers for clean scans and good baselines!

Next steps:
10/14 – Echocardiogram
10/15 – Port placement and Genetics testing
10/18 – Nutritionist
10/20 – Surgeon visit at MD Anderson
10/21 – Chemo Clinic
10/22 – First Day of Chemo – time to rock and roll

Funny thing from today:
The tech who was inserting my IV catheter couldn’t get it inserted correctly and had to get a nurse from the ER to handle it.  But she was willing to share with me that she “hoped” my scans came back good and that my “cancer hasn’t spread to my bones”.

It’s these little rays of sunshine that make me laugh.  That girl doesn’t know the village I have on my side lifting me up and carrying me through all this.  Poor thing!
